Michael Hairston Serves as Honorary Chairman of Palmer’s Walk/Run Set for September 6

Join Michael Hairston at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 6 for ten minute stretch/flex session for participates of Palmer’s 2008 Walk/Run for a Drug Free Life. Walkers will begin at 8 a.m. and runners start at 8:15 a.m. There is no participation fee, although donations are appreciated.

Hairston, nationally recognized in track and field and three time USA Track & Field All-American winner in 10,000 meters, encourages area residents to participate in the Walk/Run to be held at LaFortune Park and to join him for the warm-up exercise at 7:40. Hairston who has worked for ONEOK, Inc. for the past 18 years, was inducted into the Oklahoma Long Distance Running Wall of Fame in 1999 and selected to the Oklahoma All-Century First Team for Distance runners in 2000. He was part of Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Faces in the Crowd edition on December 15, 2006.

Hairston and his wife Kimberlee, both graduates of Oral Roberts University, have two adopted sons, Christopher and Nathan.

“The Walk/Run for a Drug Free Life is a great activity that the whole family join,” Hairston says. “It’s a great way to have a family morning out and at the same time show support for a great organization and their mission of helping those who struggle with drugs and alcohol.”

The second Walk/Run for a Drug Free Life will be held Saturday, September 6 at LaFortune Park. Start of the race will be at 8 a.m. for runners and 8:15 a.m. for walkers.  Park in the baseball field lot, just north of 61st & Yale.  Watach for the signs at the parking lot entrance on the east side of Yale.  Race start will be at the Southeast Shelter, near the batting cages. The Walk/Run for a Drug Free Life is being held in conjunction with National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Join as an individual participant or as a team.
